The Loys of OH/Wapello Co. and Clarke Co., IA
Stephen Loy was born Jan. 24, 1824 in Ohio and Minerva Starr was born Oct. 14, 1828 also in Ohio. They were married Dec. 17, 1846. They moved to Iowa near a small town in Wapello county named Kirkville in 1847. They later moved to Clarke county, Iowa near another small town of Murray. They are both buried in the Murray Cemetery. They had nine children from 1848 -1871: Peter Handby, Sarah Jane, John Henry, Stephen Lawrence, Mary Minerva, Cassius Milton, Sherman Grant, George Armenius, and Rosella Florence.

The first picture is of John when he was younger. The original image is owned by Karl’s first cousin Rose Ostler, who also owns the original of the John Loy family group photo below and that of the Beers family. On the back of this tintype John Loy wrote in his own handwriting, “Here I am J.L.”
