John George (Hans Jurich) Loy (ca. 1705 Baden, Germany—1765-68 Frederick, Frederick Co., MD)
md.
Maria Elizabeth Troud (ca. 1708 Germany—1758-1765 Frederick Co., MD) d/o Hans Martin and Judith Troud.
John George (Hans Jurich) and wife Maria Elizabeth (Troud) arrived in Philadelphia, PA on 17 August 1733 on the ship Elizabeth. Also on the ship was George’s 13 year old brother John Heinrich Loy. George’s will was dated 1 August 1765.
Note: The information on this family was taken from information in “The Loy Family in America”, a book compilation of group sheets of the Loys that came to America from Germany. Some information in this book has been found contradictory, but the names I know are at least correct. I have more detailed information as given me by John George’s descendants in 1983, but as I’ve been spending so much time on my Martin Loy’s branch, I haven’t had time to go through what information I have on George. In the future I may add group sheets of John George’s grandchildren, so keep watching.
Updated note: Information below has been compared with other John George descendant information and only minor corrections/additions were needed. In viewing the below links, I have found that John George’s son George Frederick’s son John married Catherine Isley. It would be interesting to know if she were of the same Isleys that married many times into the Martin Loy family of Orange Co., NC around that same era. One of the below links states that John George’s father was named Peter. I’ve found no other records to verify this. According to other John
George family genealogies, John George and John Henry’s brother was Matthias Loy, who took an oath of allegiance the same date as John George. Meanwhile, Matthias Loy’s family has inclined to state that Matthias was a brother to Martin Loy. (Whom some have said Martin was son of Johannes Loy, due to a marriage record of a Martin Loy being found in Germany, but not to Catherine.) Matthias’ descendants later migrated to Effingham Co., IL 40 years after my Loys of Martin’s branch did. At the same time, branches of John George’s family migrated to Preble Co., OH at the time Martin’s descendants also had lived there.
